How do one identify his or herself with Caribbean Identity?
When I was first ask the question, how do you, identify with the Caribbean? Or, is the Caribbean a copy of west Africa, European or East Asia culture. How can one distinguish itself as Caribbean?
I wanted to write one big statement that seems to crop up in several places ,and that is " A melting pot of flavours and cultures to form this unique dish of caribbeaness". Whether that be the food we eat the music we sing or the stories we tell. The Caribbean society has been impacted by many groups of people from our indigenous population crossing the frozen bering being the first civilization to inhabit the seas of the Americas. To our European oppressors who saw the Caribbean as and artificial means to serve their own economic needs.
Through our experiences of slavery and Indenture and even colonization. We as Caribbean people have created a culturally diverse region, with various ethnic groups, each, with its own cultural traits. So as you turn the pages of our upcoming magazine I Am Caribbean come and find your true Caribbean identity. Whether regional or international find that unique substance that distinguishes your identity.

Tales From the Deep Blue Sea
Born on the morning of January 26th 1989 in Kingstown St.Vincent, Dillon is the only child for his parents Lucian and Verina Ollivierre.
He began writing in 2005 while attending the Bequia Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School. His inspiration derived mainly from love. The first poem he attempted was to express his love to his crush.
“My main goal” the young lad explained, “ is to publish a book of my poetry and also to touch the lives of my readers and relate to them through my poems. As a writer, it is a tremendous feeling to be able to produce a piece that others can relate to.” He goes on to say, “Too often our youths feel alone when faced with problems of life but when they are able to read or listen to someone who is expressing the same feelings ... it gives them hope and as a poet I am obligated to relate to my readers.”
Dillon would usually share his pieces to his family and friends of whose feedback was very important to him and as years went by, he continued to mature as a writer. He gained more experience and more positive feedback. He used the local newspaper, The Caribbean Compass, The 'Barbados Advocate' and various internet sites as his medium of publication. His publication in The Caribbean Compass earned him an invitation to the annual Compass writer's brunch held April 21st 2011.
“In my opinion, life is a blessing. It is a privilege given to us to obtain the best out of it and to achieve and contribute to making the world better place. I believe that I was given the talent of being a poet for a reason so I am using it to the best of my ability. Love inspires me to write.
Reminder to all those who are capable and willing to participate in the magazine you need to start writing and submitting your pieces....please msg me or any other executive member Kevin Holder, Kevin Persad, Lou- Ann Samuel or me Monique Moses if u are having any issues or need clarification on something. All are invited to contribute however you can but keep in mind it is about what makes our region so unique!!!
